The Government of Canada is seeking applications for the position of Chief Commissioner of the Canadian Human Rights Commission.
About the role
The Chief Commissioner is a full-time appointee to the Canadian Human Rights Commission as provided under the Canadian Human Rights Act, and is appointed by the Governor in Council on recommendation by the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada.
The Chief Commissioner is the Chief Executive Officer of the Canadian Human Rights Commission, and has supervision over and direction of the Commission and its staff.
About the Commission
The Canadian Human Rights Commission is Canada’s national human rights institution that promotes and protects human rights across the country.
Operating at arm’s length from the federal government, it works towards a Canada where everyone can be included, and live a life of dignity, justice and respect — free from discrimination. The Commission does this by:
- advocating for human rights in Canada
- preventing discrimination
- resolving human rights complaints
