BOARD OF DIRECTORS RECRUITMENT INFORMATION
Cota is an accredited non-profit provider of community-based supports and services for people living with mental health and cognitive challenges.
We are presently seeking someone to join our Board of Directors who shares our passion of creating a socially just and inclusive society that supports people living with mental health and cognitive challenges to live, thrive and enjoy the full benefits of belonging within their communities.
In recognizing the systemic barriers that often result in or exacerbate a disproportionate prevalence of mental health challenges within certain segments of our society, we are specifically encouraging Black, Indigenous and People of Colour to apply who may have relevant professional experience in either of the following areas:
- Finance/accounting background, with priority given to finance experience with not-for- profit charitable organizations; or
- Legal training/expertise in areas relevant to the operation and governance of a charitable not-for-profit organization in the province of Ontario or in specific fields such
as employment, human rights or disability law
Our goal is to successfully recruit a new Director who will be able to contribute his/her/their professional skills and personal experiences to help steer the strategic ambitions of the organization while ensuring public accountability and effective governance of the organization.
In turn, the new Director will be provided with the opportunity to gain experience working with a skilled Board of Directors and contribute to the advancement of a progressive agency.
Directors are appointed for a two-year term and are eligible for reappointment for up to two additional terms. It is expected that a Director be available to serve the maximum of six consecutive years.
The Board conducts much of its work through three standing committees. These include the Finance Committee, the Quality & Performance Committee and the Governance & Audit Committee. Each Director is expected to play a role on one of these standing committees. Directors volunteer their time but are eligible to be reimbursed for expenses that may be required to facilitate their participation in Board Meetings (e.g., reimbursement of travel expenses). If you have specific needs relating to your ability to participate on Cota’s Board of Directors, we would be happy to discuss those with you and explore possible solutions.
