The Legal Clinic is funded by Legal Aid Ontario and mandated to provide legal advice andrepresentation to the Spanish-speaking community in the province. The Legal Clinic provides service in the areasof immigration, workers’ rights, housing, income security and human rights as well as community development andorganizing work to address systemic issues.Reporting to the Director of Legal Services, the Community Legal Worker is a unionized position and primarilyresponsible for providing services in the areas of workers’ rights and housing.Who You Are and What You’ve Done● In-depth knowledge of an academic discipline normally acquired through completion of a collegeor undergraduate degree in Paralegal Studies, Law, Legal Community Development, CommunityAdvocacy. Work involves application of theoretical knowledge to job-related problems● 3 to 5 years related work experience with legal clinic services or in a legal office setting● Strong computer skills related to clinics’ casefile management system and digital practice● Legal training and relevant experience in Canadian poverty law, litigation and working with vulnerablepopulations● Background in one or more relevant areas of law including workers’ rights, tenants’ rights, and socialassistance● Excellent analytical, organizational, time management, and effective problem-solving skills● Strong interpersonal skills, with an ability to deliver public presentations to diverse audiences● Experience developing plain language and engaging material for the public● Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with ability to express ideas and opinions clearly andeffectively in both English and Spanish in a professional and courteous manner● Strong advocacy skills and the ability to evaluate legal issues and exercise sound judgement● Ability to work under pressure and in crisis situations● Confident decision maker, self-motivated and enthusiastic team player● Committed to upholding the organization’s mission, vision, and values● Expertise in Microsoft Office, G Suite, and Zoom● Knowledge of community resourcesWhat You Will Do:● Provide legal services, including summary advice, document preparation and client representation to lowincome Spanish-speaking Latinx/Hispanic community members in the areas of workers’ rights, tenants’rights, and social assistance● Participate in the development and delivery of Public Legal Education and informational workshops● Make appropriate referrals according to service needs● Ensure client records are accurate and current using management software and in-house systems● Actively conduct outreach, participate in networks and build partnerships with community agencies servingthe Latinx/Hispanic community● Ensure service users have access to participate in barrier-free services● Prepare statistical and written reports as required● Participate in regularly scheduled meetings and training● Facilitate training of staff, volunteers, and students● Other duties as required to ensure continuation of service to the communityWhat We Offer You:● A full-time unionized position (OPSEU Local 512) working 35 hours a week, Monday to Friday● The salary range is CAD $49,000 - $58,000 per annum determined by qualification and experience.2141 Jane St., 2nd Floor.
