Income Security Advocacy Centre (ISAC) (full-time Executive Director)

Responsible for: A team of 9 staff located in Toronto who conduct test case and Charter and other litigation, law reform and community development with the goal of strengthening federal and provincial income security programs such as Ontario Works, Ontario Disability Support Program, Employment Insurance and the Canada Pension Plan. Directing the ongoing administrative, litigation, policy analysis/law reform, and advocacy activities of the organization to assure successful and effective delivery of its mandate in an anti-oppression, anti-racism environment.Salary: $120,000 - 160,000.00Job Responsibilities:

  • Provides leadership for the reform of income security programs to improve the lives of Ontarians with low incomes
  • Leads ISAC in a strategic manner responding to trends in the field of social justice and changes in federal and provincial government policies and legislation
  • Provides support to the Board of Directors and Board Committees, as required, including strategic advice
  • Ensures smooth operations through cohesive use of resources across ISAC, implementation of effective and efficient internal systems and procedures, and a collaborative approach to decision making
  • Responsible for the development and submission of funding proposals
  • Supervises staff, actively promotes and fosters a high level of employee engagement and supports human resources activities
  • Maintains ongoing and effective working relationships with funders and other external stakeholders

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience overseeing and managing teams
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience overseeing program budgets, including financial management and forecasting
  • Understanding of federal and provincial income security programs
  • Demonstrated experience as a litigator (minimum 10 years) and/or policy analyst
  • Demonstrated experience using a collaborative approach to leading teams
  • A law degree (LLB or JD)

Assets:

  • Legal aid clinic experience or equivalent experience serving clients from vulnerable populations who are living in poverty
  • Appellate litigation experience, including Charter and human rights litigation
  • Law reform and/or policy analysis experience
  • Experience working with the Employment Standards Act and workers’ rights
  • Participated in anti-oppression anti-racism leadership/organizing training
  • Experience completing funding applications and reports
  • Experience working in a unionized environment
  • Working knowledge of French
